Plan to reopen of casinos in the country from the first of August, authorities decided to postpone it to an indeterminate period
Stage 4 of the Peruvian plan for the reactivation of the economy has been postponed, as the Covid-19 crisis aggravated in the country. The plan to reopen of casinos in the country from the first of August, however, authorities decided to postpone it to an indeterminate period due to the expressive increase in Covid-19 cases in the country.
The casino sector in Peru was expecting to reopen its establishments in August, together with bars, discos and markets, however, employees and entrepreneurs in the sector got back to the square one. The premises have been closed since lockdown measures were applied in the country due to the pandemic.
Along with this situation, Peru has been facing a difficult moment with the paralysis of economic activities,? resulting in many people losing their?jobs?and struggling to? face the crisis in supporting ?their families.
The Peruvian Minister of Defence explained that the businesses which were included in stage 4 do not have an established date to return to their activities as the number of Covid-19 cases has increased in the country. According to him it is necessary to consider the current health crisis the country has been facing, and this situation impedes the reopening of bars, restaurants, casinos and all businesses included in stage 4.
Peru has reported a peak of 7,448 positive Covid-19 cases at the end of July. The number is significant if compared to June, when Peru reached 2,500 cases. In May the country reported more than 8,800 positive cases. Therefore, the authorities are cautiously applying measures to avoid the increase in numbers, so the plan to reopen is postponed.
According to the Minister of Production, the Covid-19 pandemic has hit Peru strongly, placing the country as the fifth nation with the highest number of coronavirus infections in the world.
